SRINAGAR: In a gesture to show compassion towards the lesser privileged sections of the society, IAS officers Wives Association (IASOWA) Thursday launched a campaign to distribute winter stockings among Orphan Children.

The donation drive was held at Banquet Hall in Srinagar in which Blankets, Thermals and Socks were distributed among the underprivileged children.

The function was organised by under supervision of President IASOWA Dr Amrita Mehta, wife of Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta. Members of IASOWA Mehak Shahid, Sadaf Aijaz and Gitanjali Singla led the donation drive.

A spokesperson of the organisation said that For most of us, the idea of winter means making all arrangements for heating at homes, putting up warm clothing  and sipping kehwa/coffee sitting besides the fire, it is our responsibility to take care of such people especially children who are in need. The realty remains that  for those in difficult conditions , with every drop in the temperatures it’s a fight for survival.

The spokesperson further said that we will try our best to extend maximum help to the underprivileged people during winter in the valley.

There is no better gift than providing warm clothing to the needy during the winter season. Many elderly and children experience bitterness of winter and are at a great risk of suffering from severe illnesses. The dip in temperature levels makes them vulnerable, but at the same time it has given us an opportunity to serve humanity by donating winter accessories to the needy. There cannot be a bigger satisfaction than making someone’s life better during harsh winter spell of the valley.
