Jammu: With the spurt in COVID cases and admission of patients in hospitals, the consumption of medical oxygen increased manifolds as 300-350 cylinders being used in premier hospital of Jammu city Government Medical College and Hospital.
“Patients are being supplied oxygen from liquid oxygen plant and hospital’s own oxygen plant,” a report said.
The report further said that till April, only 20 to 30 cylinders were being used daily from the plant, which has now increased to 300 to 350.
In the liquid oxygen plant, the tank has to be filled after every two days, its supply is from Baddi Solan.
But with the spurt in the number of patients and increase in consumption of oxygen may cause a crisis in the coming days.
According to GMC administration, about three thousand big cylinders are available in stock, of which up to 350 cylinders are being used every day and they are being regularly filled through various units. It has a capacity of 7000 liters per cylinder.
Similarly, the liquid oxygen plant has a capacity of 20 thousand liters (20 kiloliters). Due to which high flow oxygen is being supplied to the patients. GMC provides oxygen supply to 400 beds, including 8 units including CCU, HDU, isolation, ward 3.
Similarly, oxygen is being supplied to the patients through manifolds in COVID Hospital in Gandhinagar, 150 to 200 cylinders are being consumed every day, while half the beds are still empty. But as the number of patients increases, the consumption of cylinders may be increased.
CD COVID Hospital has 110 beds, in which arrangements for oxygen supply from manifolds have been made for the patients. Financial Commissioner of Health and Medical Education Department Atal Dullu claimed that ten thousand big and three thousand small oxygen cylinders are available. Oxygen generation plants will also be operational in 23 hospitals by next week.
