BUDGAM: As the Covid-19 cases rise in the Kashmir Valley, the authorities in central Kashmir’s Budgam district made face masks mandatory in public places across the district.

As per an official order issued by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza, it reads that whereas, the Covid-19 containment measures were discontinued for the past few months as there was a significant decrease in the number of Covid-19 cases.

“For the past few days, there has been a sudden increase in a number of covid-19 cases. Whereas, the situation again demands strict implementation of covid-19 containment measures to curb the spread of the infection,” the order said.

The order said that therefore, given the aforementioned facts I Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza Deputy Commissioner / Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, Budgam, in the exercise of powers vested in me under section-34 of Disaster Management Act 2005, do hereby order that the wearing of face masks shall be compulsory at all public places of district Budgam, with immediate effect.

“Moreover all district / sectoral officers are hereby directed to ensure the wearing of face masks by all officers/officials,” it said. (KDC)
