Water level in River Jhelum recedes well below danger mark


In Jammu & Kashmir, the water level in River Jhelum has receded well below danger mark both in south and central Kashmir gauges even as the weather is cloudy in Srinagar and elsewhere in Kashmir Valley. The flood control authorities have called for maintaining alertness and vigil in view of possible rainfall.

The government has ordered the closure of all schools in Srinagar district today . MeT department last evening predicted light rain or thundershower at few places over the state during next 24 hours. South Kashmir region is now declared Safe Zone while the water level at Ram Munshi Bagh gauge in Srinagar has also receded below the danger mark.

However, he called upon people along Jhelum embankments and other low lying areas to be alert and maintain vigil in view of possible rainfall and consequent situation. Divisional administration is fully geared up with round the clock multi disciplinary monitoring system in place to meet any exigency. Meanwhile, on the fourth day of ongoing Yatra, about 11000 pilgrims had darshan of Shiv Lingam at Holy Amarnath Cave yesterday.
