RAJOURI:, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, convened a meeting of the District Committee Constituted under NCORD to review implementation of the measures to tackle the growing drug menace in the district.

The DC reviewed the current situation and proposed several interventions to reduce the number of drug abusers.

“Drug abuse and addiction is a serious issue that we must address with determination and resolve. We must take all necessary steps to ensure our citizens, both young and old, are provided with clean and healthy environments, free from drugs and their hazardous effects,” said DC Rajouri.

The DC also discussed the importance of raising awareness about and curbing the availability of drugs in the district. Various government and private initiatives for drug de-addiction and rehabilitation were also discussed.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to identify drug users and peddlers in the district, and to do so in a mission-oriented manner. It was also decided that special inspections would be conducted by joint teams of Health, Police and Drug Control to check the availability of contraband drugs in medical stores.

The Chief Medical Officer was directed to issue a separate prescription book to doctors who prescribe contraband drugs to patients and to cross-check the prescriptions with drug stores.

 Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri directed the Principals and Heads of institutions to form an Anti-Drug squad to monitor student activities in Colleges and schools.

The DC reiterated the commitment of district administration to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and prosperity of citizens, particularly young citizens. He praised the work of police and other departments who are at the forefront of this fight.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Mohd Aslam, said that the police department is doing its utmost to combat the drug menace and sought the cooperation of all the stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohd Aslam; ADC Rajouri, Sachin Dev Singh; ADC Sunderbani, Vinod Behnal; ADC Nowshera, Kartar Singh, PO ICDS, Shoket Mali, DSWO, Wakeel Ahmed Bhat and other Committee members.
