Vikar, Bhalla among many detained as police foils Congress march

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani, along with a number of senior leaders and hundreds of party workers were detained here after they tried to take out a march to the Raj Bhavan over the Adani issue and policies of the union territory administration.

Those detained included Congress working President Raman Bhalla and former minister Yogesh Sawhney amid the sloganeering, demanding statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and the assembly elections.

The workers were protesting against the BJP for denying a probe into allegations of financial irregularities and market manipulation by the Adani group.

Wani led the protest march from outside the Maharaja Hari Singh Park to the Raj Bhavan. However, the protesters had marched barely for 500 metres when police took many of them into preventive custody at Vivekanand chowk, and moved to a nearby police installation.

“JKPCC today hold a protest march against the Crony capitalism of the Adani group, Property tax, Aptech JKSSB Scam and delayed elections in J&K. Police detained and didn’t allow us to march towards Raj Bhawan,” said Wani.
