Director Horticulture Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad Bhat took a review of walnut nurseries being established in North, South & central Kashmir Valley with an estimated cost of 538.41 lacs.

The three walnut nurseries are being established in public sector at Kupwara in north Kashmir & Anantnag in South Kashmir & at Khonmoh Srinagar in central Kashmir.
These nurseries are being developed to produce grafted high quality walnut plants of improved varieties & selections. A Mother orchard of different walnut varieties is also being established at these farms which will cater to the large demand of scion wood required during grafting of walnut plants.
Directors Horticulture later visited Zawora khunmoh farm where one such nursery is being established & took stock of all the developmental activities.
Bhat was accompanied by joint director, CHO Srinagar & other field functionaries of the department.
He also planted some walnut trees in the mother walnut orchard being established there.
