“I warn him that the assertion of the BJP to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35- A of the Constitution of India will further worsen the situation in J&K State and strengthen separatism.” Saifuddin Soz said at a press conference in Srinagar.

Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Former Union Minister and President J&K Peoples’ Empowerment Mission, today reacted to BJP’s Election Manifesto, saying that it contains an obnoxious reference to the Union’s relationship with the J&K State.

“It asserts that once the BJP forms the Govt. at the Center, on the conclusion of Election- 2019, it will, among other things abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution of India and also Article 35-A.”
“I reject this assertion as it is totally misplaced and unwarranted because it will remove the very bridge that connects J&K State with the Union of India. That, tragically PM Modi is neither conversant with the history of India nor with its constitutional history, is a proved fact.”
“Since the cabinet system of governance in India has completely broken down and it is a one single man’s rule, I will refer to PM Modi as the sole person responsible for production of the BJP’s Election Manifesto. On the basis of my assessment of the thinking of the people of J&K State, I can safely say that the people here reject the assertion of the BJP that it will abrogate Article 370 and Article 35-A of the constitution of India.”
“At this critical juncture of our constitutional relationship with the Union of India, we take the position that abrogation of Article 370 of the constitution of India will create a situation that the people of J&K State will be forced to seek separation from India.”
“While it is futile to remind PM Modi to withdraw the portion of the party Manifesto relating to abrogation of Article 370 & 35- A of the constitution, I take this opportunity to warn him that the assertion of the BJP to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35- A of the Constitution of India will further worsen the situation in J&K State and strengthen separatism.”
“The immediate fall out could be that the Kashmir Mainstream may not be seen different from the so-called separatists. PM Modi will be squarely responsible for such turn of events.”
