Uttarakhand: Portals of Kedarnath shrine opened today after winter break

In Uttarakhand, portals of Kedarnath shrine were opened this morning with traditional fervor and gaiety after the winter break. Portals were opened amid chanting of Vedic Mantras and performance of other religious rituals. The temple was specially decorated with flowers to mark the occasion.

Only priests and few senior District administration officials were present on this occasion due to Covid-19 pandemic. Social distancing and other covid protocols were ensured during the opening of the portals.

State government has suspended the Char Dham Yatra following the surge in covid pandemic in the state. Earlier, portals of the other two shrines – Gangotri and Yamunotri were thrown opened. Portals of Badrinath temple will be opened tomorrow.
