UNESCO tag biggest day for Srinagar: Mayor; Commissioner SMC says milestone achieved after hectic efforts, more in offing

SRINAGAR: Terming UNESCO tag to Srinagar as the biggest day for the whole district, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu Tuesday said that they have decided go for a month-long celebratory event.

Addressing a presser here, Mattu, who was accompanied by SMC Commissioner Athar Amir Khan, Director Industries Mehmood Shah and others, said that serious efforts have been made by them to ensure that Srinagar achieves this milestone.

“We have achieved this milestone after a lot of hard work and dedication. We have been pursuing this since 2018 and finally, after the hard work and serious efforts by SMC Commissioner and other officers concerned, we have finally achieved the milestone. It is the biggest day for the whole of Srinagar,” Mattu said.

He added that they have decided to go ahead with the monthlong celebratory events regarding arts & crafts and others.

SMC Commissioner, Athar Amir Khan while talking to media persons said that the SMC’s proposal for the UNESCO tag was endorsed after hectic efforts by one and all. “We are working together to achieve more milestones in the future,” he said. Several other officers also spoke on the occasion—(KNO)
