Three tourists, including a police constable, from Maharashtra drowned in the Arabian Sea at the Calangute beach near Panaji this morning.
Calangute police inspector Jivba Dalvi said a group of 14 tourists from Akola arrived in Goa by train around 4 a.m today.
They ventured into the sea around 6 a.m., even though there were signages advising people against swimming in the choppy waters.
Quoting eyewitnesses, the police said five of the tourists got swept away due to strong undercurrents. Three persons drowned while two others managed to swim to the shore.
