Thousands participate as minor killed in Hajin encounter laid to rest


Thousands of mourners on Friday participated in the funeral prayers of minor boy, Atif Mir, who was held hostage by militants during a gunfight at Hajin village of Northern Kashmir.

Atif was just 12 years old. Tears rolled down the cheeks of every person participating in the funeral procession, as they marched with his body to the graveyard where he was laid to rest.

“We rescued five members of the family held hostage by the militants. Militants did not release the minor boy, even after persuasion by family, magistrate and local Auuqaf committee. Later, we recovered the bodies of a minor namely Aatif Mir, and 2 militants. The militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba,” confirmed SSP Bandipora.
