Vintage Kashmir

The last bus leaves Srinagar for Rawalpindi

The kind of road connectivity Jammu and Kashmir has today was not the same in 1947. Kashmir Valley’s main link in the British India was with Rawalpindi, which was to become part of Pakistan. Two main transport transport companies, Allied Charagh Din and Nanda, was based out of Abbotabad and Rawalpindi, respectively. With the break out of tension, these transport companies pulled out of service and withdrew their vehicles. You will find somewhere else on this website how Jammu and Kashmir dealt with its transport and communication challenge after 1947 | TheDispatch
