The great games of Maharashtra

We all seem to be taken with the drama which is happening in Maharashtra on face value. That Shiv Sena is desperate for the CM’s seat and thus has fallen out with BJP. Well, it could well be that everything is happening on the basis of face value, but, have you thought about possible implications of it being a deeper game?

Say, tomorrow, Shiv Sena, after forming Govt with Congress and NCP, 6 months down the line, suddenly decides to break away from the Govt and get back with BJP, where will NCP and Congress be? The Muslim voters would have realised that Congress is nothing more than an opportunist. If that was the case, what stops it from talking to BJP? Not to mention, through interactions, Shiv Sena would get to know of inner workings of the alliance, and also know whom to break away from the two parties. THIS is the factor which is weighing in on Sharad Pawar’s mind. THIS is why they want Shiv Sena to do agni-pariksha.

Was this foray to fail? Oh well Shiv Sena will walk back to BJP, they will make amends. There will be an enactment of ‘Ghar wapasi’…etc. Nothing is lost. Congress leadership will be blamed for not being able to take a gift of an opportunity and will seem indecisive. The state is in any way in their pocket. But, was this foray to succeed, then Shiv Sena would be the perfect Manchurian candidate to deliver a blow to the enemy camp.

Think about it. This is the reason as to why the clock keeps ticking away, but there is no easy answer.
