Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), India’s largest telecommunications service provider, today said that it has crossed the 50 lakh customers’ mark in Jammu & Kashmir. With this, India’s fastest mobile network has further cemented its leadership position in the state.
In a recent development, over 83% of all Aircel customers in J&K ported to Airtel, once again underlining Airtel’s position as the most preferred network in J&K.
The company also announced a massive network expansion drive to further scale up its high speed data services across the state. Airtel plans to expand its network footprint in the state to 11, 400 mobile sites by the end of H1 FY19 with the aim of considerably enhancing the network experience for its customers and taking high speed data services deeper into rural and unconnected areas.
By end of H1 FY 18-19, Airtel 4G will be available at 3000 more locations across the state and this expansion shall be extensively backed by making 4G services to reach some of the remotest locations of the state.
Airtel has been consistently rated as the fastest mobile network in India. Ookla – the global leader in speed tests rated Airtel as India’s fastest network three times in a row (in Q3-Q4 2016, Q1–Q2 2017 and Q3-Q4 2017).

• By the end of H1 FY 18-19, the number of Airtel mobile sites across J&K will go up by 30% to 11,400 and considerably enhance the network experience for customers. This will translate to 14 new sites getting added every day to the Airtel network.
• Airtel also plans to deploy over 1500 km of fresh optic fiber in the region. The addition of fresh fiber capacity will support the growth of high speed data services in the region
• Airtel was the first operator to launch 4G services in the country’s northern frontier of Ladakh region. Airtel’s network umbrella in the region covers all key urban, semi urban and rural areas including highways, tourist destinations and trade centers. It has the widest network footprint with network coverage even in remote locations eg. Airtel is the only operator to offer 4G services at Dras, Kargil and Leh
• There are over 140 villages in the state where Airtel is the only private operator that has its services.
Airtel is the only private operator offering mobile services on all technologies- 2G, 3G and 4G in the remotest locations of Jammu & Kashmir.
