Tawi is the main protagonist in the historical narrative of Jammu city. It witnessed the founding of Jammu by legendary king Jambulochan and by Raja Maldev in 1370 A.D. It carries in its lap the stories of expansion of Jammu city from Purani Mandi to modern city with posh colonies and numerous Malls. Gulab singh met Zorawar Singh on its banks at Dhaunthali Dakki which changed the course of history of Jammu, the famous battle of Gumat, where Mian Mota, Mian Dido and Gulab singh showed their valour and the role Tawi played in saving Jammu. It still salutes her heros like Mian Dido who gave their life for their land. She holds the narratives of the Dogra Queens like Rani Charaki and Rani Bandrali whose palaces line up on its banks as a part of Mubarak Mandi Palace complex, especially, the story of Parameshvari Devi, queen of Raja Bajradev. After she committed suicide because of facing aversion from her husband, Raja got temple erected in her memory known as Parameshvari Devi temple. This temple is considered as oldest temple in Jammu city.
