The Government today said that a task force, set up to examine the correlation of marriageable age and related issues, has submitted its report to the Centre. The information was given in a written reply to Lok Sabha today by Women and Child development Minister Smriti Irani. She said the task force has also examined other issues like motherhood, health, medical well being, nutritional status of mother during pregnancy and child birth.
She said that the Ministry after examining the report has requested Niti Aayog to examine the report in the light of the adverse impacts of early marriage on issues relating to health, nutrition, education and economic empowerment of women. Niti Aayog has also been requested to undertake a comprehensive study on the impact of the prohibition of child marriage (Karnataka Amendment) Act, 2016.
