Surf Excel’s latest Holi advertisement leaves twitter divided. Should it be criticised or lauded?

Detergent brand Surf Excel’s latest Holi ad titled “Rang Laaye Sang” has divided the Twitterati. Some have called for a boycott of Surf Excel while some have lauded their ad promoting communal harmony. Watch the ad and decide it for yourself!

The Hindustan Unilever owned Surf Excel ad “Rang Laaye Sang” (colours bring us together) features two kids – a young Hindu girl and a Muslim boy. The girl, dressed in white, gets stained in Holi colours while protecting her Muslim friend who is going to a nearby Mosque.

The ad hasn’t been well received by a section of people, who alleged it of promoting love jihad and being Hindu-phobic, and have started trending hashtags like #BoycottSurfExcel and #BoycottHUL on several social media sites.

Famous Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri tweeted:

Akash Banerjee in a satire tweet says “Do not share this ad” while sharing the video of the ad.

The other section of people has come out all in praise for Surf Excel for the ad. They have lauded the concept and efforts of the brand for promoting communal harmony and peace.

Even Former CM of J&K and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti tweeted in support of the ad.
