SOPORE: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed in an ongoing encounter that broke out between militants and security forces at Panipora forests in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday evening, officials said.
Officials told that during the ongoing operation, three other militants, two of them foreigners and a local fled from the spot, however hunt for them is going on.
He said that the security forces including Army’s 22 RR, 09-Para, CRPF and Special operation group of Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off the area following the information about the presence of militants.
“The hiding militants fired upon the security forces after the cordon around them was tightened. In the initial exchange of gunfire, one foreign militant identified as Hanzalla of Lahore, Pakistan was killed while one AK rifle, five magazines along with ammunition has been recovered.”
Quoting Inspector General Kashmir police, Vijay Kumar, Police tweeted ” 01 Pakistani terrorist affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT killed. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. 2 FTs and one local terrorist escaped from cordon. Search going on.”
Giving the details about the slain militant police in an another tweet said “As per the documents recovered from the killed Pakistani terrorist, he has been identified as Hanzalla of Lahore, Pakistan. One AK rifle, 05 magazines along with ammunition has been recovered. Further details shall follow”—(KNO)
