Jammu, Feb 12: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Friday said that even though J&K police is fighting on multiple fronts including eradicating militancy, the force needs to gear up to counter “sophisticated propaganda and rumour-mongering in virtual world” which is aimed at disrupting peace in the peace in UT.

“I salute the courage and valour of J&K police. This the forces with professionalism and commitment which is working professionally on multiple fronts including eradicating militancy. However, the force must gear up and effectively counter the sophisticated propaganda and rumour mongering which is backed by Global Networking Gangs and their sole aim is to disrupt peace,” the LG Sinha said as news agency—, while addressing passing-out-cum attestation of new police recruits at police academy Udhampur in Jammu region.

A total of three Dy SSPs (Prob) and 583 Probationary Sub Inspectors, including 553 males and 30 females completed their rigorous training at Police Academy Udhampur. The oath was administered to the passing out cadets for performing their duties with dedication and honesty.

The LG Sinha said that from arms training, counter-insurgency tactics to drug trafficking and Cyber Crimes, rigorous training makes the J&K Police an organic entity to adopt innovative methods to fight new crimes, ensure law & order and also protect the heart and soul of beautiful society.

Terming Cyber Crime as a big threat in recent times, the LG Sinha said that criminal activities in the virtual world are new generation warfare which needs effective monitoring and quick response.

“Social media is being used to generate social conflict, the only purpose of which is spreading sophisticated propaganda and disrupting peace,” he said.

“Tackling such organized apparatus and network is very crucial for peaceful social order. I believe that to fight this gang of global networks, our young officers with Communication and Technology background will be a multiplier force,” the LG Sinha said.

He advocated implementing Karnataka Police model and if needed other states of India for countering social media and Cyber-Crime challenges in J&K. “Police while performing their duties must win the confidence and trust of the common man. There has to be a humane approach with the common people while eradicating militancy,” the LG Sinha said.
