JAMMU: Several areas of Jammu have been hit by dengue as health officials have confirmed over 378 dengue cases in the division.

Officials told that so far over 300 cases of dengue have been reported among them two persons have died, which including one from Udhampur and the other from Rajouri. So far, the Jammu division has recorded 378 cases, Director, Health Services Jammu division, Dr Reenu Sharma told.

Officials said that most of the cases have been reported from Rajeev Nagar, Rehari Sarwal, Bhagwati Nagar, old city Jammu. They said that children and even elderly people have also been infected with dengue. “We have been monitoring the situation very closely and the situation is under control and all appropriate steps are being taken in this regard to control it further,” they added.

Notably, Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection. These may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash. Recovery generally takes two to seven days. In a small proportion of cases, the disease develops into a more severe dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, where dangerously low blood pressure occurs.

It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Secretary Dr. A K Mehta had already impressed upon the Department to issue cautionary advisories/alerts and carry out an extensive IEC drive highlighting the Do’s and Dont’s to contain and mitigate the disease by preventing water pile up; mosquito breeding; mosquito bites, besides, making operational a dengue helpline to extend telephonic consultation on dengue-like symptoms.

The Health and Medical Education Department was also asked to ensure proper treatment facilities for dengue patients through dedicated cell/wards and appropriate human resource deputation—(KNO)
