Six drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir, cash, drugs recovered

Srinagar, Jan 13: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested six drug peddlers and recovered cash and drugs in the valley, a police spokesman said Wednesday evening.

He said  in Awantipora, police established a check point at Gunchocha Crossing Tral and intercepted a vehicle driven by Owais Ashraf resident of Trali Payeen. During checking, police recovered six of Codeine phosphate and 270 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon from his possession.

Meanwhile, police at a check point established at Lurgam Tral in Pulwama and intercepted one person identified as Shabir Ahmad Ganie resident of Lurgam Tral. During checking, police recovered 3 Kgs of grinded Cannabis and 300 grams of Charas like substance from his possession.

The drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to PS Tral where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 02/2021 and 03/2021 under the relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Tral and further investigation initiated.

In central Kashmir district of Budgam, police established a checkpoint at Mohanpora Ompora and intercepted a vehicle with two persons on board. They have been identified as Umer Gaffar Lone resident of Humhama and Aqib Wani resident of Mohanpora Ompora. During checking police recovered 24 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 150 Spasmoproxyvon plus Capsules and 99 tablets of Alprazolam. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Budgam.  Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 06/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered and further investigation initiated.

In Baramulla, police at a checkpoint established near Petrol Pump Khawajabagh intercepted one person identified as Amjid Hussain resident of Delina Baramulla. During checking, police recovered 91 bottles of Codine Phosphate from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Baramulla.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Baramulla and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Similarly in Ganderbal, police established a check point at Peerpora Ganderbal and intercepted one person identified as Gulzar Mohammad Saeed resident of Narayanbagh Shadipora. During checking police recovered 900 grams of bung powder like substance wrapped in Polythene from his possession, besides police also seized cash amount of Rs 2.40 lacs from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Ganderbal.

In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
