Shopian encounter: Top Jaish commander believed to be trapped

Shopian, Mar 13: A top Jaish-e-Muhammad commander is believed to be trapped in an encounter in the Rawalpora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district where the exchange of firing is on.

A top police official told the news agency that Jaish commander Wilayat alias Sajad Afghani, a resident of Rawalpora is reportedly trapped.

He said that Cordon and Search Operation was launched on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area yesterday.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
