Science Day celebrated at Jammu University

Jammu: The Science Club of the University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Nature and Wildlife Club celebrates National Science Day and Rare Disease Da at Amphitheater, University of Jammu. During the event, an inspiring story about Sir C.V. Raman, the first Asian scientist to win Nobel Prize, was delivered by the esteemed physicist, Dr Sandeep Arya, Department of Physics, University of Jammu who inspired and interacted with students. He shared about the groundbreaking discovery of the “Raman Effect” by Sir C.V. Raman for which he won Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.

On this occasion, students got a chance to learn about rare diseases from a geneticist, Dr Rakesh K. Panjaliya, Department of Zoology, JU. He explained to the students in a very lucid manner with examples of common rare diseases in the population. Dr Panjaliya stressed upon various cancers which are also many a time are rare diseases and specifically brought awareness about breast cancer and its preventive measures.

Renowned Birder and Head of Statistics, Prof. Parmil Kumar, Coordinator Nature and Wildlife Club, enlightened the students about the eminent Geologists, Dr D. N. Wadia, and Wadia Museum of Natural History, JU. Dr Wadia is one of the most significant geologists of the early 20th century and is known as Father of Indian Geology. Prof Parmil informed about how statistics can draw inferences in correlation studies.

Among distinguished guests Chairman, Jammu University Club Cluster, Prof. Satnam Kour Raina, Department of English and Head, Department of Psychology, addressed the gathering with enthusiasm and encouraged their kind of informative sessions to be conducted more often. Dr Sadaf Shah, Coordinator Literary Club and Associate Professor, Department of English also graced the occasion. The event was organized and coordinated by Dr Chinmoyee Maharana, Coordinator Science Club, and Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology Department. The students from various departments and all the delegates had a very informative session in the lap of nature.
