Sachin Vaishya emphasizes on strict implementation of BIS Standards

Bureau of Indian Standards conducts Sensitization Workshop at Shopian on Consumer Rights, recent Initiatives in quality control.

SHOPIAN: With a view to promote quality consciousness and awareness among officials and other stakeholders of Shopian, awareness cum sensitization workshop was today organised by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex, here.

The objective of the programme was to develop better understanding and insights of standard formulation, use of Indian Standards especially ISI Marked Products to promote procurement of ISI Marked Products by Government Offices.

The Workshop was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya who was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the Workshop, DC appreciated the BIS for organizing insightful awareness cum sensitization workshop on BIS standardization.

DC said that proper planning and standardization is of utmost importance for development. He praised the BIS care app and other initiatives taken by BIS for the development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods.

On the occasion, DC also directed Metrology and Food Safety departments to speed up their day-to-day checking to check market irregularities.

He also urged the officers to spread awareness among the masses during public outreach programmes.

Joint Director, BIS, JKBO, Pankaj Atri gave an overview of the working of BIS. He said that BIS is the quality ecosystem of the country and promotes quality, safety and reliability of products and services through various BIS Conformity Assessment schemes.

He said that BIS certification is a means for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products to the consumers.

He also gave presentation on department specific standards, Standards Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking and Compulsory Registration Scheme.

He demonstrated ‘Know Your Standards portal’ of BIS through which standards can be easily located and downloaded free of cost along with demonstration on  BIS Care App through examples to check the authenticity of ISI marked products and Hallmarked jewellery and complaints can also be registered.

Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Yar Ali Khan; Joint Director, Planning, Khursheed Ahmed Khatana and other district and sectoral officers of the district participated in the said workshop.
