Sri Lanka Navy has said it rescued two Indian fishermen stranded in the seas while four Indian nationals have been arrested on charges of drug trafficking. A navy statement issued today said the crew attached to the Northern Naval Command, rescued the two fishermen who were drifting in the sea off the northern coast of Jaffna yesterday. They were provided basic medical treatment and were handed over to the Kankasanthurai Police for further investigation.
In another incident, a group of naval personnel arrested four Indian nationals with 36. 1kg of Kerala cannabis in the sea area west of Analathivu island yesterday. The navy statement said the suspects have been identified as residents of Thiruvadanai. The suspects along with their boat were handed over to the police for onward legal action. The incidents came after 12 Indian fishermen were arrested last week on charges of poaching into Sri Lankan waters.
