Jammu: Prominent business leader and Chairman of PHD-CCI Jammu, Rahul Sahai called upon the visiting Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh and suggested measures to boost the steel industry in Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh was on a visit to Jammu as part of round two of Narendra Modi Government’s unprecedented ministerial outreach to Jammu and Kashmir. The Minister is also accompanied by Puneet Kansal, IAS, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Steel, Government of India.
Rahul Sahai, the PHD-CCI Chairman, Jammu, was also accompanied by industry stakeholders including Rahul Bansal of Kashmir Steel who are among the largest steel producers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sahai Briefed about the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry established in 1905, a proactive National Apex Chamber working at the grass-root level with strong national and international linkages. The Chamber acts as a catalyst in the promotion of industry, trade and promotion of entrepreneurship Also briefed about working of PHDCCI in J&K.
Sahai Congratulated Ramchandra Prasad Singh, Union Minister Of Steel Govt Of India for a wonderful PLI scheme worth 6322 crores for 5 yrs period having an investment of 40000 cr and asked Minister that how this scheme could benefit Jammu and J&K or any plans of investment in Jammu under this scheme. Sahai also assured full support in the target set by the steel ministry in special steel of 42 million tons production.
PHDCCI Delegation suggested Steel Minister about various points which can boost steel industry and steel production and consumption in the JK UT, Majority of points were Overcoming the shortage of coal and stable prices of coal as it is very important for the industry, suggested that scrap should attract 5% Gst because of 18% GST lot of fake invoicing in GST is happening which should be curbed at the earliest. Sahai emphasized setting up a mother industry in Jammu like Rail coach factory or any other industry from central Govt so that steel consumption and production be increased in JK UT, Sahai said J&K being a special UT the MSMEs should be given some concession in the price of steel by SAIL and Govt could consider setting up of a Service Centre for further processing of Steel (from the coil to sheets) which will improve the supply situation of steel for the local industry
Rahul Bansal stressed upon purchase preference for the existing TMT bar industries of J&K, He applauded the minister that all the Central Govt projects are only using branded TMT Bars in spite of the best quality local TMT’s are available JK UT. He suggested having some purchase preference for local TMT steel industries of J&K which can further result in employment and consumption of steel.
Ramchandra Prasad Singh, Union Minister Of Steel Govt Of India gave a patient hearing to PHDCCI Delegation and assured that Steel ministry is very serious about Development of steel industry in J&K and will definitely keep these points in mind while framing a policy for the steel industry in J&K
