SRINAGAR: After a week-long Ladakh tour, the Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, is all set to arrive in Srinagar on a two-day visit here on Friday.
Reliable sources told that Rahul Gandhi, who has been in Ladakh since last Thursday, will first reach Sonamarg at 2:00 P.m., where he would likely get a reception from the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) led by its President Vikar Rasool Wani.
Rahul will later arrive in Srinagar by road. His mother and former All India Congress Committee (AICC) President, Sonia Gandhi, will also arrive on a two-day personal tour.
Sources said that Rahul would likely stay one night in a houseboat at Nigeen Lake here while he would spend another night in a local hotel in the same area.
“Rahul Gandhi is purely on a personal visit here and would not chair any meeting of party leaders in Srinagar in the next two days,” a JKPCC leader, wishing anonymity, said.
This will be the first visit of Rahul Gandhi to Srinagar after the culmination of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar in January this year.
Pertinently, Rahul spent his one week in Ladakh where he interacted with the local youth there and also celebrated his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birthday on August 20 at Pangong Lake.
Earlier, Congress on August 22 had said Rahul Gandhi’s Ladakh Yatra is a continuation of the Bharat Jodo Yatra as his trip to the Union Territory was in fulfillment of a commitment made to a delegation from there during his cross-country march—(KNO)
