Protecting minorities in Kashmir our national duty: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

SRINAGAR: Union Minister for Minority Affairs Thursday said that protecting members of minority communities is the “national duty” of the Government of India and those killing members of the minority community in Kashmir will be tracked down and punished sternly.

“Those killing innocent members of the minority community in Kashmir want to put a brake on the ongoing development. Wherever the killers are hiding, they will be tracked down and punished,” Naqvi told reporters in reply to a query at the tourist resort of Dodhpathri in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

He said that protecting the members of minority communities is the “national duty” of the Government of India. “We will ensure full protection to the minorities in Kashmir,” he said and termed the recent spate of civilian killings in Kashmir as unfortunate.

Lashing out at the regional political parties, Naqvi said that BJP is not the party that would go to voters at the time of elections. “We always stay in touch with people round the clock. We need to know what people know every month, every week and every day. This is our motive,” he said, adding that all tourist places in Kashmir would be explored in the days ahead—(KNO)
