President Ramnath Kovind today expressed concern over the tendency among the poor people to refrain from approaching the judicial system to solve their issues.
He was addressing a public reception this morning at Kanpur after laying the foundation stone of the auditorium of Kanpur Bar Association.
Mr Kovind said that this situation should be changed and that advocates may play a significant role in this regard. Mr Kovind asked the advocates to cooperate with courts in disposing off the long pending cases.
He appreciated the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court for his initiatives for disposition of cases. The President said that strikes in the courts are not good for the judicial system.
He asked the advocates to strengthen the alternative judicial system including Lok Adalats and mediation to deliver justice to the poor people in an affordable manner.
The function was also addressed by the UP Governor Ram Naik, State Government Minister Satish Mahana and Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Justice DB Bhosale.
