Preparations for smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra intensified

SRINAGAR: Preparations for 43-day long Amarnath Yatra via Baltal in Ganderbal district have been intensified for smooth conduct of the pilgrimage to holy cave shrine.

The Yatra will start from June 30 through a 14-km long route at Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district after a hiatus of two years of Covid pandemic. It is expected that the rush of pilgrims will be much higher this year.

An official told that all preparations are being completed for the annual Amarnath Yatra so that the pilgrims do not face any hassle. According to officials of the concerned agencies, the 14 km road length which is the shortest track to holy cave via Baltal in Ganderbal is almost clear.

He said that they will replace six vital wooden bridges with steel bridges for the smooth yatra. Besides, three helipads for choppers from Baltal to the cave are also ready for carrying the pilgrims.

The snow clearance on a portion of track from Sangam to Panchtarni is going on at full pace and will be made through within a week or so, the official added. He said rescue teams have been deployed especially in slippery areas in advance, so that the base camps and travel routes can be made safe and checked at the earliest.

Besides the tile work on the path from Baltal to Domail has been completed and the work on extension up to Railpathri is also going on. Meanwhile, langerwalas are also visiting the base camp in order to take stock of arrangements made for them by district administration—(KNO)
