Policeman injured in Nowhatta encounter succumbs at hospital

Police arrested Natipora resident for providing second-hand scooty to active militants Momin Gulzar

SRINAGAR: A policeman, who was injured during a chance encounter in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar yesterday, has succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, official sources said here on Monday.

An official told that the policeman identified as Sarfaraz Ahmad of Batote Ramban was injured during a chance encounter in the Nowhatta area on Sunday evening.

He said that the injured cop was shifted to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Notably, a militant was also injured during the encounter, while the vehicle used by the militants was also seized. Police also said that one AK-74 rifle and two grenades were also recovered during the search operation.

Meanwhile, Srinagar police has said that they have arrested Natipora resident for providing a second-hand scooty to active militant Momin Gulzar.

“One Umer mukhtar Naqeeb S/o Bashir ahmad R/o Natipora arrested for providing a 2nd hand scooty to active militants Momin Gulzar on 27.07.2022. This scooty along with arms/ammunition/explosives/clothes/other incriminating material was recovered yesterday after chance encounter”, Srinagar police said in the tweet.
