PM’s Swachh Bharat Mission hits roadblock as garbage piles up outside Jammu BJP office

Jammu: Despite a Swachh Bharat mission being launched by the Central government led by the BJP, a heap of garbage is accumulated outside the party headquarters in Jammu.
The Swachh Bharat mission has largely remained a “photo opportunity” for leaders in J&K. Neither the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) nor BJP leaders, who ruled the state for about three and a half years, has paid heed to the much-publicised campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP has a multistorey building as its state party headquarters at a prime location in Jammu, but it has not been able to lift garbage being dumped outside the office.

“The garbage is being dumped for a long time. Not just locals, the party headquarters also dumps its waste on the roadside,” said Sushil Mahajan, a resident of Trikuta Nagar, which is near the BJP office.

“They (BJP leaders) only click photographs with a broom in the hand for media coverage and social media campaigns. They never see the garbage dumped on roads and even outside their party office,” he added.

Locals alleged that despite repeated requests to the JMC, dustbins have not been installed and even if they are, no one comes to clear them for three to four days.

Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor, JMC, was unaware of the garbage dumped outside his own party office.

“I will check it right now and get it cleared,” the Mayor said.
