PM told Apni Party ‘stay on course to keep enjoying our Ashirwad’, Vijay Bakaya reveals

While calling out the alleged duplicity of National Conference and People's Democratic Party on Article 370 restoration, Bakaya said, "we adopted a realistic approach with clarity of mind on the political future of Jammu and Kashmir which settled way back in 1947". Jammu: A regional voice with nationalist temperament, the Apni Party is facing difficulty of perception, lamented its senior leader Vijay Bakaya.

Addressing a ‘party joining’ event in Jammu on Tuesday, Bakaya said “while people in Jammu region look at us as a Kashmir-centric party, those in Kashmir call us B team of BJP”. He, however, hastened to add, “I can see we have overcome this challenge as more and more people are joining the Apni Party”.

With this clarity of mind, we came together to form this party as an authentic regional voice with a nationalist temperament. “We then met with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister’ he said. ‘”Agar aap isi raaste par chalte rahe, agar aap baqiyon ki tarah nahi bhatke. Aap desh ke hit main baat karein, desh ke saath jude rahain, aap par hamara ashirwad bana rahe ga. -The Prime Minister told us, if you stay on this course, if you don’t change the track like other parties…if you keep on talking in national interest..you will keep on enjoying our blessings”, Bakaya revealed.
He said it is in this backdrop that we are called the B team of BJP, he said. Bakaya further added, “our engagement is with government of India, not the political party”.
Highly cultured, well read and mild mannered, Vijay Bakaya has been a seasoned bureaucrat who retired as Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. A 1970 batch IAS officer, Bakaya was Chief Secretary from from August 2005 to May 31, 2006, This period also saw transition of government from Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Bakaya joined the National Conference in July 2007 and was later elected to the Legislative Council. In 2015, the National Conference appointed him as Political Advisor to its president Dr Farooq Abdullah.
A widely respected member of the Kashmiri Pandit community, Bakaya joined hands with Altaf Bukhari in March 2020 to become a co-founder of the Apni Party, a post August 5 initiative to normalise the mainstream politics.
