PM Narendra Modi to dedicate redeveloped Jallianwala Bagh Smarak to nation on Saturday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the renovated complex of Jallianwala Bagh Smarak to the nation on Saturday. The PM will also inaugurate the museum galleries developed at the historic smarak through in a virtual event. According to a release by the government, four galleries have been created at the Jallianwala Bagh Smarak to showcase the events that took place in Punjab via an audio-visual medium.

Created using ‘adaptive reuse of redundant and underutilised buildings’, the restored structures are in line with the local architecture of the city. The Shaheedi well at the Jallianwala Bagh, which witnessed the horrific scenes of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on April 13, 1919, has also been restored and redefined with a superstructure.

The architects have used modern technologies such as projection mapping and 3D representation along with art and sculptural installations to narrate the events that took place in Punjab during the era. A Sound and Light show has been set up to display the events that took place in 1919.

“The heart of the Bagh, the flame monument, has been repaired and restored, water body rejuvenated as a lily pond, and the pathways made broader for better navigability,” a statement by the Press Information Bureau said.

Some of the new and modern amenities that have been added at Jallainwala Bagh also include redefined paths of movement with appropriate signages, illumination of strategic spots; landscaping and hardscaping with native plants among others.
