PM Modi to launch Ujjwala 2.0 in UP today, will distribute free LPG connections

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Ujjwala 2.0 scheme on Tuesday (August 10) by handing over free domestic LPG cylinder connections to beneficiaries at Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh. The event, scheduled to take place at 12:30 pm via video conferencing, PM Modi will also interact with the beneficiaries and address the nation.

In May 2016, PM Modi had launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) that gives a mix of financial aids, subsidies and loans to cover capital costs of stoves and LPG cylinders.

It is worth mentioning here that the beneficiaries of PMUY-2.0 (Ujjwala 2.0) will not only get deposit-free LPG connection but also free of cost first refill and hotplate with less paperwork.

“Tomorrow, 10th August is a special day for India’s development trajectory. At 12:30 pm, Ujjwala 2.0 will be launched with connections being handed over to people in Mahoba, UP Will also interact with the beneficiaries of the scheme. Since its launch, Ujjwala has ensured a life of dignity to our citizens, especially women. In August 2019, the target of eight crore connections was completed seven months before the decided time frame,” PM Modi tweeted on Tuesday.

In an earnest attempt to safeguard the health of women and children, the Narendra Modi-led government had launched the clean fuel scheme, providing cash help to the beneficiaries to get a deposit-free new connection. Plus, the connections are given in the name of the women heads of the households.

“Along with a deposit free LPG connection, Ujjwala 2.0 will provide first refill and hotplate free of cost to the beneficiaries. Also, the enrollment procedure will require minimum paperwork. In Ujjwala 2.0, migrants will not be required to submit ration cards or address proof. A self-declaration for both ‘family declaration’ and as a ‘proof of address’ will suffice. Ujjwala 2.0 will help achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of universal access to LPG,” it said.

The statement further mentioned that along with a deposit free LPG connection, Ujjwala 2.0 will provide first refill and hotplate free of cost to the beneficiaries. Also, the enrollment procedure will require minimum paperwork. In Ujjwala 2.0, migrants will not be required to submit ration cards or address proof. A self-declaration for both ‘family declaration’ and as a ‘proof of address’ will suffice. Ujjwala 2.0 will help achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of universal access to LPG.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will be present at the ceremony.

With a fresh target to add another 1 crore more PMUY beneficiaries to the existing 8 crore, it will take the total number of cooking gas consumers in the country closer to 30 crore by March 2022.
