Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and former Parliamentarian Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Dr. Mookerjee is remembered as a fine educationist, a wonderful administrator and a stalwart who fought for India’s freedom as well as unity.
The Prime Minister also shared a picture of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar saying that both were Ministerial colleagues and had a futuristic vision for India’s growth.
Apart from being a political activist, Dr Mookerjee was also a barrister and academician. He served as Minister for Industry and Supply in the first Cabinet post Independence. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 which was re-formed as the Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP in 1980.
