Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted people on the occasion of Rath Yatra. In a tweet, Mr Modi hoped that with the blessings of Lord Jagannath, India will scale new heights of growth and every Indian will be happy and prosperous.
The most awaited biggest annual festival of Rath Yatra or Chariot Festival commences in Puri today. This is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals. The famous festival that is celebrated usually on Ashadh Shukla Dwitiya, when the chariots of Lord Jagannath accompanied by his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra are brought out on to the main street of Puri. The Chariots are then taken to the Shri Gundicha Temple, where the deities enjoy a nine days stay and are served with sweet pancakes.
