People started taking COVID-19 appropriate behaviour lightly after vaccine was rolled out: Harsh Vardhan

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said that people started taking COVID-19 appropriate behaviour lightly after the vaccine was rolled out.

Urging people to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour, the Health Minister said that everyone must remain cautious even though the unlock process has started.

With our collective will and efforts, we shall end this pandemic, he added.

‘Ensure everyone follows all COVID-19 appropriate behaviour everywhere’

“Ensure everyone follows all COVID-19 appropriate behaviour everywhere, every time. Also, get yourself vaccinated at the earliest,” he said in a tweet.

This statement from the Health Minister comes after Dr Naveet Wig, Head of the Medicine Department, All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), cautioned people about the looming danger saying that coronavirus disease has not been eradicated yet and it will keep on “changing its colours”.

“Virus has not been eradicated; it keeps on changing its colours. So wear a clean mask and do not use an unhygienic mask at all,” he added.

‘Must vaccinate 90 lakh people daily to flatten COVID-19 curve by July end’

Eminent cardiologist and Chairman and MD of Medanta Hospital Dr Naresh Trehan opined that India’s COVID-19 curve could be flattened by the end of July if the government can vaccinate a whopping 90-lakh people a day.

“We invited the second wave, and if we were to repeat the same, then God help us! With near double mortality versus the first, the second was a shocker,” he said and advised people to follow COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

If starting July 1, India manages to administer 50 lakh vaccines a day, then the impact of the virus can be reduced by 25 per cent and by 50 per cent if this is scaled up to 70 lakh by mid-July, Dr Trehan said.

“We may even flatten the curve if we can vaccinate about 90-lakh people in a day by the end of the month,” he added.
