Over 300 cases of black fungus reported in Karnataka

As Mucormycosis or black fungus cases reach over 300 in Karnataka, all the district hospitals and all the 17 Government medical colleges are given the mandate to prepare for the treatment of this infection.

The Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhakar has informed that Union minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers D V Sadananda Gowda is requested to provide 20,000 vials of Amphotericin B drug to treat the infection. He added that the state has already received 1,150 vials of this drug and another 1000 vials are expected in a day or two. AIR Correspondent reports that the black fungus cases are increasing by the day and have killed 12 people.

A committee constituted to find out the cause has said that contaminated water used in the humidifier, excessive use of steroids, unsterilized medical equipment, prolonged use of the same mask, tube are the source of this infection.

On the availability of oxygen in the state, the minister Dr. Sudhakar  said that CCTV cameras will be installed in all the Covid hospitals to ensure transparency and the Central Control Centre will handle the data of all the districts in oxygen use. On Vaccination, the minister informed that so far 1.22 crore people are inoculated. The state received three lakh doses of Covishield yesterday under the Central quota.
