Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and politician Omar Abdullah on Friday took a dig at the recently-released trailer of the film The Accidental Prime Minister. The film chronicles the decade from 2004 to 2014 when former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh was in office. The Accidental Prime Minister is based on the book by the same name, written by Singh’s media advisor Sanjaya Baru.
Since last afternoon when the filmmakers unveiled the trailer of the film, Twitter has been divided as far as opinions on the film is concerned.
Omar Abdullah wrote on Twitter, in a hardly-veiled dig at Prime Minister Narednra Modi, “Can’t wait for when they make The Insensitive Prime Minister. So much worse than being the accidental one.”
The Accidental Prime Minister, based on the eponymous book, stars Anupam Kher as Dr Manmohan Singh and Akshaye Khanna as Sanjaya Baru.
Anupam Kher took to Twitter to share the trailer and posters of the film. The Accidental Prime Minister is set to hit the screens on January 11, 2019.
The BJP tweeted the trailer from its official handle yesterday, a move that did not go down well with the Congress.
On Twitter, the BJP wrote, “Riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years. Was Dr Singh just a regent who was holding on to the PM’s chair till the time heir was ready? Watch the official trailer of #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister, based on an insider’s account, releasing on 11 Jan!”
Randeep Surjewala, a Congress spokesperson, called the trailer ‘fake propaganda’.
Speaking about the trailer, Anupam Kher said, “We did not start the film thinking that this kind of political scenario will be there. It is a political film based on a book, whatever the book has said we have tried to make that. There will be different kind of interpretations and one can have their own interpretation. People release patriotic films during Independence Day or Republic Day. This is a political film and we would like to release it in the election time. What is the problem in that?”
The Accidental Prime Minister is directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and is slated for a release on January 11, 2019.
