NIA court grants PDP leader Waheed Para bail in Hizbul terror conspiracy case

Jammu:  PDP youth leader Waheed Para, who was in jail in connection with an alleged Hizbul Mujahideen terror conspiracy, was granted bail on Saturday. Waheed Para recently won from Pulwama in the recently-concluded Jammu and Kashmir District Development Council (DDC) elections.

A special NIA court in Jammu granted bail to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed Ur Rehman Para citing lack of evidence against him. This comes as a setback for the National Investigating Agency (NIA) that had booked Para under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

However, sources within the NIA told India Today that proof, including technical evidence and the mirror image of a mobile phone, was presented before the special NIA court. The NIA had been preparing to file a chargesheet against Waheed Para in February of this year, sources added.

A popular face of former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP, Waheed Para was arrested by the NIA on November 25 in connection with a case involving tainted J&K cop Davinder Singh. A former deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Singh had been arrested for aiding and abetting terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

In fact, Davinder Singh was caught by security forces in January of last year travelling from Srinagar to Jammu in the same vehicle as Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Naveed Babu.
