KUPWARA: The newly constructed building of the government boy’s high school, Guloora in the Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has developed major cracks, thereby putting the lives of students and staff at risk.

Locals said that they had already brought the issue to the notice of concerned authorities that the contractor has used substandard material in construction.

They alleged that the building was recently handed over to the department and soon it developed cracks, thereby putting the lives of students and staff at risk.

“We had already informed the head of the institution that the concerned contractor has used substandard material in its construction but she did not pay any heed and today we have the results before us,” he said.

The locals said it took years to construct the building and huge funds were spent but to no avail. “We demand a probe into this and the concerned contractor be taken to task for using substandard material in its construction,” the locals said.

They also appealed to deputy commissioner Kupwara to take note of this issue and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. Despite repeated attempts, CEO Kupwara did not respond to several calls from this reporter—(KNO)
