Jammu: National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) J&K UT Chief Rajesh Gupta by welcoming the new Excise Policy said that the new Excise Policy introduced by the UT Government would greatly help in achieving the financial targets. He appealed to all political parties to do healthy politics. He said it’s not necessary to always oppose every move of ruling government sometimes we should appreciate good moves also.

Addressing to media here, the NDPI president said that the Policy is vibrant and has touched all the important issues in the larger interest of the public and Union Territory of J&K. He said those opposing the policy are themselves arrange cocktail parties in their family or social functions.

Gupta maintained the focus has been laid on transparency and openness. Gupta said the policy carries forward the objectives of encouraging transition from high to low alcoholic content beverages, to bring about greater social consciousness and awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to check bootlegging/smuggling of liquor and narcotic drugs in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir from neighbouring States/Union Territories.

The NDPI leader said new Excise Policy aims at rationalizing the tax structure to optimise revenues besides encouraging a transition from High to Low Alcoholic drinks. He further added that the major new initiatives include introduction of three new categories of Licenses a) JKEL 2A (Retail vend of Beer and RTD in JKTDC/Tourism Establishments/ Tourism Development Authorities /Airports etc.); b) KEL-6A (Bottling License on leased out Premises)and c) W1-Winery is a very welcome step by LG administration.
