Natural Farming: A self-sustaining process of holistic rural development- VC SKUAST Jammu

JAMMU: Prof J P Sharma Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu while chairing a session during 6th national convention of Agrivision “Natural Farming Modern Technology-coordination and implementation on 21st of May 2022 at NAAS Complex, IARI New Delhi said it is time to take big steps and take agriculture out of chemical labs and associate it with nature. In his address Dr Sharma said amalgam of natural farming, organic farming and current agriculture can mitigate the ill effects of chemical based agriculture gradually. Prof Sharma further briefed NITI Aayog has been promptly undertaking all the steps necessary to guide the natural farming policy. A number of schemes under Atmanirbhar Bharat can be directed towards promotion of natural farming. In order to make polite effective, an enabling institutional mechanism can be put in place to promote technology. He reiterated that the teachings of Vedas should be followed to save mother earth from disaster posed by climate change and global warming. He said that natural farming has potential to save costs and bring about fruitful. Animal products commonly used in natural pest management in India are Shankhnaad Panchgavya and Dasgavya. Panchgavya, an organic product has the potential to play a role of promoting growth and providing immunity to the plant system. Prof Sharma further elaborated that Natural farming renewed awakening and growing confidence among the farmers about this system again. This mode will not only provide a healthy environment, appropriate productivity and pollution-free food, but will also usher in a new self- sustaining process of holistic rural development. The areas which are registered organic can be taken up initially for popularizing natural farming. Afterwards, the efforts to transform conventional areas can be taken up. Dr Sharma said that Natural farming products can fetch higher prices in international markets, if there will be an authenticated certification and branding. Certification of natural products will help in identification of source of food and priority areas can be identified in the form of clusters in the regions where chemical fertilizer use is negligible and products are already grown in natural conditions should be put to natural farming.
