JAMMU: In a heart wrenching incident, a mother and her 9-year-old daughter died while her husband was injured after their house collapsed due to a landslide in Bufliyaz village of Surankote area in Poonch district on Friday.
The incident took place near the site of a project for upgradation of road from Rajouri to Surankote.
“Three people were injured on Friday after a big boulder following a landslide hit their residential house, following which a rescue operation was launched,” officials said, adding that the incident was reported in Dooner area of Bufliyaz on DKG road at around 5:50 am.
The 48 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army and the police along with locals immediately launched a rescue operation, they said.
“Mohammad Latief (40), his wife Naseem Akhtar (35) and their daughter Rubina Akhtar (9) were injured in the incident. After hectic efforts all three were rescued and were taken to SDH Surankote, where mother-daughter duo was declared dead on arrival,” official sources said, adding that the male member of the family was referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri.
Deputy SP Surankote said that a rescue operation is still going on at the site of the incident as some livestock are buried under the debris.
