Militant, two soldiers killed in Zainapora gunfight

SHOPIAN: Two army soldiers and a militant was killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in Chermarg village of the Zainapora area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Saturday.

Earlier, a joint team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on the input generated by J&K Police in the area, officials said.

A defence ministry spokesperson based in Srinagar identified the soldiers as Santosh Yadav and Sep Chavan Romit Tanaji, both from 1 RR. The encounter at Cherbourg Zainapora ensued as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the target spot. The hiding militants had fired upon the forces, triggering off the gunfight.
