In Mexico, left-wing candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador is heading for a clear victory in the Presidential election. Electoral officials said initial count of votes indicated that former mayor of Mexico City had won about 53 percent of the vote. López secured more than double that of his nearest challenger, Ricardo Anaya,of conservative National Action Party.
According to the results, ruling party candidate José Antonio Meade is in third place. Polling were held yesterday across the country. Campaign has been marred by violence with more than 130 political candidates and party workers killed since September. Mexico has been hit by a wave of violence since the government deployed the army to fight drug trafficking in 2006.
