Mehbooba Mufti apologizes for her ‘toffe’ and ‘milk’ remarks, Says won’t visit families of militants if youth don’t like it


Srinagar: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Monday apologized for her comments that she made during the 2016 uprising.

Mehbooba received flak for her remarks that she made during the 2016 uprising when she had said “Had they gone to buy toffees” after she was asked about the situation prevalent in 2016 when more than 100 civilians were killed.

On Monday she apologised for her remarks and said she was pained at what she was witnessing, referring to the killing of teenagers during the uprising“If my comments as a mother have agonized mothers, sisters and brothers, I apologise. I am being criticized that I have said toffee etc. But I said it as a mother. Mothers get angry when her kids don’t listen to her.” Mehbooba said.

She said that as a mother she felt pain when kids were  killed and out of anger she made those comments

The PDP president said that for her the toughest time was seeing those who campaigned for her see  protest against her.

She also said that she will stop visiting families of militants if youth don’t like it.

The PDP president made the remarks when she was addressing a gathering on the death anniversary of her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
