SRINAGAR: After a circular of Dagger Parivaar School Baramulla surfaced on social media platforms instructing its staff to “avoid” hijab during school hours, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said she condemns the letter issuing diktats on hijab.

Mufti on her Twitter handle wrote, “I condemn this letter issuing diktats on hijab. J&K may be ruled by BJP but it’s certainly not like any other state where they bulldoze the houses of minorities & not allow them the freedom to dress as they want. Our girls will not give up their right to choose.”

In the aftermath of the surfacing of the circular about hijab, which triggered a widespread condemnation on social media, an official of the school has said that the circular was not about hijab but about niqab (veil) and students studying in the school need a significant physical interaction as they are differently-abled ones.  (KDC)
